Born in New York City on July 24, 1927.
His work through the years has been figurative, going against the fashion of abstract expressionism so popular in the 1950s and 1960s when he was making a name for himself. By 1965 he was considered one of the foremost American artists and he has held literally hundreds of exhibitions of his paintings and prints world-wide.
